In fact, there are no clocks anywhere in sight and with an endless variety of exciting casino games you may be tempted to spend all your time in Las Vegas, casino-hopping, which is a great thing to do if you are on a winning spree. If not, you may want to consider leaving behind the bright interior neon lights and stepping out into the brilliant Las Vegas sunshine, where there are lots more things to see and do.

Looking for excitement that is more exciting than gambling and weightless walking? Strap on a parachute and experience the thrill of Las Vegas sky diving. While free-falling from 10,000 feet above ground, enjoy a birds eye view of the city you left behind a few minutes ago.

The Imperial Palace Auto Collections, home to the worlds largest collection of classic, antique, special-interest and muscle cars, is a car enthusiasts heaven. Spend the day admiring these classic cars, and if you were lucky enough to have won that jackpot, maybe you could even afford to buy one!

Dont forget to witness the eruption of the Volcano at the Mirage Hotel or take a look at the largest gold nugget in the world, which is housed at the aptly named, Golden Nugget Las Vegas Hotel. For Liberace fans, the Liberace Museum has on display everything possible about this flamboyant pianist.

Some may use a rental car merely for convenience of travel between the casino's, hotels and the Strip in spite of good public transport like the regular monorail but there is much use for a rental car for day trips to place of natural beauty. Some of the best sights are located just outside of Las Vegas and require that you drive to those destinations.

Near the outskirts of the city, there are numerous golf courses such as Bali Hai and the Arnold Palmer-designed Angel Park – the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, the Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort. There are also dune-buggy reserves for dune-buggy off road adventures.

Being prepared for longer day trips by rental car, means being able to visit man made sites such as Red Rock Canyon, the Hoover Dam and Lake Mead – the USA’s largest reservoir which are surrounded by National Parks– are within a few hours’ drive of Las Vegas and it is advisable to leave early to allocate enough time to spend at these sights to appreciate them fully.

Further a field you are able to take in the natural beauty of the Grand Canyon, Zion National Park and Death Valley with Mt. Whitney 2 hours drive beyond. The drive to the Grand Canyon is about 5 hours, so again an early start is important if doing it as a day trip.

While Driving in Las Vegas you will find that roads are usually easy to navigate as they are designed around a grid system, but congestion can cause gridlock situations on weekends, when it advisable to avoid Las Vegas Boulevard altogether. The alternative routes are recommended, which are the roads that run parallel to it. A SatNav or map should help to set an alternative route.

Do what the locals do and avoid driving long distances on the Strip altogether. Instead take I-15, which parallels the Strip, and get off at the exit nearest your hotel and park there. Frank Sinatra Drive (which dead ends into Industrial Road) lies just west of the Strip, runs behind the casinos, and provides another option. Koval Lane and Paradise Road provide similar access on the eastern side of the Strip. If you need to do an east or west traverse of the northern half of the Strip and I-15, consider using the Desert Inn Road super-arterial, which was built specifically to provide a fast grade-separated route for east-west traffic.

Virtually no major casinos on the Strip or downtown offer free parking anymore, and many also offer valet parking for an additional charge. On Friday and Saturday nights, the self-parking lots fill up fast; consider spending on the valet to avoid cumbersome delays and endless circling around.

Some intersections in Nevada have an atypical traffic light signal: a flashing-yellow left arrow. This indicates that you may turn left after yielding the right-of-way to oncoming traffic and pedestrians. From flashing yellow, the arrow can either go to green for a traditional protected left turn or to solid yellow which indicates it is going to turn red.

The Nevada Desert is fascinating to drive through on the alternate route 1-15. Precautions need to be taken - Make sure you carry extra water for drinking and also for over-heating the engine. Be sure you have studied your route and where you will fill the tank. Getting stuck without fuel, even on the highway could mean hours delay to resolving your problem.
