Do what the locals do and avoid driving long distances on the Strip altogether. Instead take I-15, which parallels the Strip, and get off at the exit nearest your hotel and park there. Frank Sinatra Drive (which dead ends into Industrial Road) lies just west of the Strip, runs behind the casinos, and provides another option. Koval Lane and Paradise Road provide similar access on the eastern side of the Strip. If you need to do an east or west traverse of the northern half of the Strip and I-15, consider using the Desert Inn Road super-arterial, which was built specifically to provide a fast grade-separated route for east-west traffic.
Virtually no major casinos on the Strip or downtown offer free parking anymore, and many also offer valet parking for an additional charge. On Friday and Saturday nights, the self-parking lots fill up fast; consider spending on the valet to avoid cumbersome delays and endless circling around.
Some intersections in Nevada have an atypical traffic light signal: a flashing-yellow left arrow. This indicates that you may turn left after yielding the right-of-way to oncoming traffic and pedestrians. From flashing yellow, the arrow can either go to green for a traditional protected left turn or to solid yellow which indicates it is going to turn red.
The Nevada Desert is fascinating to drive through on the alternate route 1-15. Precautions need to be taken - Make sure you carry extra water for drinking and also for over-heating the engine. Be sure you have studied your route and where you will fill the tank. Getting stuck without fuel, even on the highway could mean hours delay to resolving your problem.
